Der gelernte Schauspieler hatte darüber hinaus Erfolge mit Filmen wie „Mein Partner mit der kalten Schnauze", „Jumpin\' Jack Flash" (1986), „Homer und Eddie" (1989), „Mr. Destiny" (1990), „Abraxas" (1991) sowie ein Gastauftritt in Wag the Dog (1997). Seit 2001 hat James Belushi eine eigene Sitcom: „Immer wieder Jim".

Seine deutsche Stimme wird James Belushi von Arne Elsholtz geliehen.
