John Cleese ist ein britischer Komiker, Schauspieler und Drehbuchautor, der als Mitglied von Monty Python berühmt wurde. John Cleese studierte Jura in Cambridge und schloss mit der Promotion ab. 1969 wurde erstmals Monty Python\'s Flying Circus ausgestrahlt. Die Gruppe hatte großen Erfolg mit ihrem schwarzen, grotesken Humor. Nach drei Staffeln hörte John Cleese bei der Show auf, arbeitete aber trotzdem an weiteren Monty Python Projekten mit. 1975 produzierte er mit großem Erfolg die Sitcom Fawlty Towers. Hier spielt er einen steifen Hoteldirektor, der immer wieder in peinliche Situationen gerät. John Cleese gründete die Produktionsfirma Video Arts und produzierte erfolgreich geistreich-ironische Schulungsvideos für Manager. Mit dem Familientherapeuten Robin Skynner schrieb er psychologische Ratgeber. Sein größter Erfolg war aber der von ihm geschriebene Film „Ein Fisch namens Wanda" 1988. Aktuell arbeitet John Cleese zusammen mit seiner Tochter Camilla an einer Musical-Version des Films.
