Michael Douglas ist der Sohn des Schauspielers Kirk Douglas. Er hatte bereits mit 8 Jahren einen kleinen Auftritt in dem Film „Der weite Himmel".  1975 erhielt Michael Douglas seinen ersten Oscar als Produzent des Films „Einer flog über das Kuckucksnest". Der Durchbruch als Schauspieler kam mit der Fernsehserie „Die Straßen von San Francisco", die von 1972 bis 1976 lief und ihm drei Emmys einbrachte. Es folgten Erfolgsfilme wie „Das China-Syndrom", „Auf der Jagd nach dem grünen Diamanten" und „Auf der Jagd nach dem Juwel vom Nil", die ebenfalls von Michael Douglas produziert wurden. 1987 bekam er für den Film „Wall Street" seinen ersten Darsteller-Oscar. Es folgten die Kino-Erfolge „Der Rosenkrieg", „Basic Instinct", „The Game", „Falling Down" oder „Traffic - Macht des Kartells". Zuletzt sah man Michael Douglas in dem Film „ Der Womanizer - Die Nacht der Ex-Freundinnen" neben Matthew McConaughey.
