Der US-amerikanische Schauspieler Tom Hanks wurde am 9. Juli 1956 in Concord, Kalifornien geboren.
Nach der High School absolvierte Tom Hanks sein Schauspiel-Studium am Chabot College in Hayward und der California State University. Sein Leinwand-Debut gab er 1974 in "Happy Days". Der internationale Durchbruch gelang Tom Hanks mit der Komödie „Splash - Eine Jungfrau am Haken". Es folgten Kassenschlager wie „Schlaflos in Seattle" oder „Philadelphia", wofür Tom Hanks seinen ersten Oscar als bester Hauptdarsteller erhielt. Ein Jahr darauf wurde er erneut mit dem Oscar für seine Hauptrolle in „Forrest Gump" ausgezeichnet.
