Der Computerprogrammierer Thomas Anderson führt ein Doppelleben und verdient sich als illegaler Hacker unter dem Namen Neo etwas dazu. Als Neo von Morpheus, dem Oberhaupt einer Geheimorganisation kontaktiert wird, muss er sein bisheriges Weltbild revidieren. Die von ihm bisher als real wahrgenommene Welt ist lediglich eine Simulation, durch ein komplexes Computerprogramm namens Matrix. In Wahrheit wird die Welt von Maschinen kontrolliert, die Menschen zur Energiegewinnung züchten. Die Rebellentruppe um Neo, Morpheus und Trinity leisten Widerstand.
Die deutsche Stimme von Tank, gespielt von Marcus Chong, ist Dietmar Wunder.
